International Tiger Day, also known as Global Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. The goal of the day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.


International Tiger Day - on July 29 - draws attention to the plight of one of the world's most majestic animals. From an estimated population of 100,000 early last century, there are now only an estimated 3,200 tigers left in the wild. At the current rate of poaching and habitat loss, it has been estimated that tigers in the wild could completely disappear within the next ten years.


Sumatran tigers lost 5.9% per year of their habitat. Sumatran forest lost more than 500 thousand hectares per year and became farmland. Oil palm expansion is one of those cases that sumatra forest destruction into a wild life

In addition to experiencing the destruction and fragmentation of habitat (forest), Sumatran Tigers are also threatened by some kind of pressure, for example, conflict with humans, poaching and illegal trade.


By Global Tiger Day celebrations in 2013, we hope people care and aware Sumatran Tiger needs  places / space (forest) for the living . Global Tiger Day celebrations in 2013 conducted in five cities in Indonesia such as: Jakarta, Palembang, Jambi, Medan, and Bali. One action of the Global Tiger day celebrations 2013 were "painted face" performed by volunteers from various groups, such as students, conservationists, etc.
